I don’t need to know their entire life story, but I do need to know what about this particular moment or moments is arousing to them. This is why one of my most frequent editorial comments is: How did it feel? But I also want to know more about those characters, even within the relatively short word count. Yes, I want heat and eroticism on the page during any sex scenes, as well as variety among the types of sex and people enjoying it in my books. When I’m reading so many stories in a short time period, the truth is that much of the physical activity fades away in my mind when I’m making my selections. That was something I’d never considered before, and the writing style, setting and particular fetish made me want to accept it as soon as I’d read it. For instance, in my anthology Orgasmic, Velvet Moore’s story “Chemistry” is set in a chemistry lab, about a woman who’s aroused by this branch of science. It’s your job as an author to brainstorm ideas that go beyond the obvious. So, similar to my advice above about creativity, exploring themes from interesting angles can help make your story more memorable.įor instance, with the theme of surprise, I may accept one or possibly two surprise party stories, but the rest of the book, the other 20 or so stories, will be ones where the surprise element is, well, surprising. With hundreds of submissions, I often find similarities between submissions, which often means I have to reject stories I’ve enjoyed in order to offer maximum variety to my readers if they’re both about a topic or feature a plot point or setting that’s too alike. Many of my anthologies have a theme, such as the two mentioned above. Anything you can do to differentiate your story from all the others I’m reading will give it a leg up. I encourage you to use that knowledge to craft your plot and offer me, as an editor and a reader, something new. Maybe you’re extremely knowledgeable about a particular subject or setting or hobby or subculture or sexual identity or sexual practice or type of sex toy that most people know nothing or very little about. Making your story stand out could mean starting with a literal bang, or using an attention-getting writing style that I don’t see much of, such as second person. This means I’m always looking for stories that stand out in unique ways. In the course of the last two decades, I’ve read thousands of short stories for consideration for my anthologies, for which I generally receive between 100-300 submissions. If any aspect of them is unclear, feel free to email me at the address listed with the call. If you’re going to take the time to write a story to submit to my books, please make sure you’re following the guidelines. I do so not to make writers jump through hoops, but to ensure writers don’t waste their efforts sending me stories that won’t be a fit, and to save myself time, so I have more time to edit and promote my books and thereby give authors a wider readership. Compared to companies like Sony and Nikon, Canon is a little slower and more deliberate with its new models, and often they don't seem to have specs which immediately sound exciting. In fact, even just lamenting the fact that Canon "still lags" in some way is probably helpful in generating hits. which gives DPR plenty of things to write about in an "exciting" (ie hit inducing) way, whether by saying how fantastic some new thing is, or even just talking about some new product even if they aren't that impressed by it. ![]() Those companies introduce new models relatively frequently, they tend to throw in "new technology" each time, and Sony's Exmor sensor has been measurably better for low ISO DR. In that context, it is not so hard to see why DPR seems biased against Canon, and towards Sony and Nikon. Also, they have an obvious interest in generating hits for their website, and I assume also in having people buy products via links on DPR. However, from what I have read (and admittedly I haven't read much recently - I gave up on DPR a while ago) they seem more interested in the technology than photography. My theory is DPR isn't intentionally biased. Roger, on the other hand, is giving his professional opinion (he is not a paid reviewer) of the empirical data he personally measures, along with that data, and his work does not rely on the good grace, sales, nor advertising dollars of the camera companies, unlike DPR. Hopefully first they will produce a brilliant M camera to show the way.Ģ/ People say DPR are biased because what they write is easily shown to be biased, and the 'examples' they post to illustrate Canon 'issues' are complete falsifications. ![]() I believe Canon will be able to produce a brilliant mirrorless full frame camera. I like the ability to view the photograph after it's taken through the view finder. I'm looking forward to Canon's first attempt at it in full frame. Because the mirror is a mechanical moving part I presume at some point it will be consigned to history. Sony are really pushing the forefront of technology with their cameras but don't (as yet) have the same range of glass.įrom this article I got the impression that the Canon Mount has a great potential for mirrorless than Sony. My personal favourite is Bryan at the Digital Picture but there are many good ones out there.Ĭanon do so well partially because they have such a fantastic range of lens to go with rock solid cameras. They tend to be the personal view of the reviewer and are just one source of information. I've read many DPR reviews and found them to be pretty reasonable in their comments in terms of praise and criticism of particular cameras. I couldn't see it to be in their interest at all to be biased. As far as I know its owned by Nikon or Sony. You might not agree with their methods or what they look for in a camera but I couldn't see why they would have any reason to be biased at all. I can't see why DPR would be biased at all. Only one thing should be kept at the forefront of all our minds with regard to topics like these, shoot what is best for you. All the arguing for one side or the other is merely an exercise in futility. I am also not opposed to one day picking up another Canon or other branded DSLR if there is to come a body I feel compelled enough to use over what I have in the bag now. This is precisely why although I no longer own a DSLR, I still use numerous Canon DSLR lenses. Canon is still the most reliable company out there offering the widest range of products in their ecosystem and backing the entire line with highly regarded support. But that doesn't mean that I feel other people should make the same decision. I for one got rid of my last Canon DSLR months ago as I just didn't feel it gave me what I needed as much as my mirrorless rigs. It all goes back to the sayings "horses for courses," and "different strokes for different folks." There are obvious advantages and conversely, disadvantages to both platforms and only the shooter can determine for themselves which one is best suited to their needs. Bronzer is typically placed at the highest point-where the sun hits you the most, like your temples, forehead, cheeks, and across your nose and chin. A bronzer is usually in a warm tone because you’re adding a luminous glow back into your face-think ~sun-kissed~ and glowy. The difference between bronzer and contour is that bronzer warms up your face, while contour creates shadows.
